Project of the Week – April 1st, 2011

Hi Ken, I wanted you to know just how delighted we are with the way this project transformed our room. The guidance you provided us in terms of design and audio visual were really very helpful, we love the 3D TV!  The care that was taken each step of the way was remarkable to watch.  Each of our friends that see the new room all ask about the company that did the work – each time we tell them about Appleton Renovations. We wanted to take a moment and thank you and your team for our new Family Room which has exceeded our expectations.  The cabinets, sound system and TV have transformed our home.  We have not had the best of luck with contractors but the project went exactly as you told us at the beginning. From the install of the cabinets, the replacement of the fireplace, the painting and the install of the electronics.  Each team was on time, did great work, and took time to explain what they were doing.  We were especially impressed with how they protected our floors and furniture.  We appreciated the fact that we never felt we were being pressured into equipment we did not want nor features we didn’t need.

Thanks again,

Mr. Fish – Coto de Caza, CA

TECHNOLOGY INSIGHT – HDMI CABLES – MARCH 30th, 2011

All HDMI CABLES cables are NOT created equal.
Short length cables (under 10ft/3m) are generally not an issue as long as they comply with the HDMI 1.4 specification (now referred to as “High Speed HDMI Cables”). But once you go beyond 12ft/4m, you need to verify the cable will meet the performance needs of your system design. HDMI 1.3 cables do not necessarily meet the 1.4 specification and may not have enough bandwidth to pass 3D, 8-bit/12-bit color, Audio Return Channel, or Ethernet Channel… All features now becoming more and more common in the newest HDMI connected gear.

 HDMI CABLES

â— Set up and test the equipment you are installing BEFORE you install cables in walls.
I know this sounds pretty basic, but many of the HDMI issues that I get calls on involve “existing” products the customer already owns that were incorporated into the installation with “new” products. Connect all the products together and test them with all the cables and devices you are planning to use in the installation. It’s better to solve any issues before you install the cables behind walls – and a lot less expensive.

Fireplace Project of the week March 4th, 2011

Hi Ken,

The Appleton Renovation – Murphy Bed Hardware used in today’s beds is state of the art. It’s a counter-balanced spring system with a lightweight frame which results in finger-tip operation. Whether you’re six or eighty-six you’re able to open and close the bed with ease.

Our only negative comment is the before and after picture.  Our new room makes the old one look soooooo bad.

Thank you!

Mr.  Fazio – Mission Viejo, CA

Fireplace Project of the Week February 25th, 2011

“Recently  we attempted to retro-fit our existing TV cabinet in an effort to keep our cost down,  unfortunately it didn’t turn out as we had hoped so we contacted Ken to see if there was something he could do… after reviewing our options I asked Ken to honestly advise as to what he would do if this was his personal home and of course his response was  “start over…â€Â  not exactly what I wanted to hear but after he explained the actual cost of the Fireplace Project and difference between the retro and recreating our space to be more aesthetically pleasing and practical, I began to realize the upside of how the room could be transformed into something more elegant that matched our life style more efficiently.  The results are amazing!  The room now feels huge!  Thank you Ken for your design ideas and bringing them into a reality!  Our home is becoming more and more our dream home with each design you create, we look forward to the next project and will continually recommend you and your team to all our friends and family.â€Â  Mrs. Lamb – Coto de Caza, CA
